...400 miles over 7 days towing a trailer full of books. Sound fun? I think so too!
Here's a little history. Almost 25 years ago, I pedaled my bike from Union Hill School to the California capitol building and back in 1 day. It was about 220 miles (figuring in the time I got lost) and I raised several thousand dollars for our PE program.
Now, it's time to give school literacy and mental health services a little love. Last year I taught in Oxnard, Ca. This year, I am in Scotts Valley. Could I drive down to Oxnard to see my former 7th graders promote from 8th grade? Sure I could. But where's the fun or the challenge in that?
No driving for me...I am riding my bike down there pulling a trailer full of books. I hope to raise $5000 to split between my current school (San Lorenzo Valley Middle School) and Dr. Manuel M. Lopez Academy in Oxnard.

As a bonus, BAPU Life (maker of totally rad sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, etc) has signed on and has agreed to give 100% of their profits to the cause as well. Their goal is promoting positive living, so their donations will go toward school mental health services.
